About ColorFabb ASA filament

ASA filament by ColorFabb is a material for more advantaged 3D printer users as the material prints more like ABS, while warping and shrinking is more manageable. The material has two key selling points: its inherent UV stability and high temperature resistance of 96 °C. This results in a well suited material for outdoors.

ASA is more susceptible to warping compared to PLA or PETG type filaments. Especially models with a large footprint can shrink and warp during printing, but compared to ABS in most cases less severe.

Apart from using a large brim and heated buildplate of 90-100°C (or higher if your machine is capable) we can also advice the following. Print a tall skirt around your model to reduce cold air flow around the printed model or print inside an enclosure for better control of the environment temperature.

What is ColorFabb LW-ASA filament?

Compared to the ColorFabb ASA the LW-ASA 3D filament has comparable features. However, the ColorFabb LW-ASA material is capable of increasing its volume nearly 2.5 times. The filament density is close to 1,07 g/cm3, but when foamed at its maximum capacity users will achieve part density close to 0.43 g/cm3. The foaming process consists of printing at higher temperature, caising the filament to foam and increase in volume. 

LW-ASA is more susceptible to warping compared to PLA or PETG type filaments. Models with a large footprint can shrink and warp during printing, albeit compared to ABS in most cases less severe.
